Who I am

I'm Max Latimer.

Certified breathwork practitioner, vision quest guide in the Stalking Wolf lineage, coach, and father of two. I live in the Northern Rivers with my wife and our boys.

I've spent over a decade working with more than a thousand people through one-on-one coaching, group work, and extended retreat settings. The weekly sessions at Happy Mountain and McLeans Ridges Community Hall are what that work looks like right now.

My story

On getting back to what was always there.

For most of my twenties, I didn't know something was wrong. I just knew I was restless. Moving from job to job every six months to two years. New environment, same feeling. The external world kept changing. Something inside didn't.

Then one morning I drove to work and sat in the car park for twenty minutes. I couldn't go in. It wasn't dramatic. It was just a weight in my chest that wouldn't lift. And I knew, sitting there, that I couldn't keep doing the same thing and expect something different to come out the other side.

What followed was a long piece of work. A $50,000 pay cut. Moving cities. Losing my dad. Three months of silence before my first child was born. And eventually, a four-day vision quest in the Australian bush — no food, minimal water, sitting alone with whatever was actually there.

On day two of that quest, my guide Steve told the group a story. In Thailand, monks had a massive golden Buddha that over centuries had been covered in layer after layer of clay. To protect it. To hide it. Eventually, no one remembered the gold was underneath — until a crack appeared and someone saw the gleam.

When he told that story, something landed in my chest. I reached into my pocket. I'd been carrying a small plastic gold trinket for five years, something a friend had given me after a personal development event. I'd never been able to throw it away, but I'd also lost the thread of why I'd kept it.

Sitting there in the dirt, it made sense. The gold had always been there. It had just been covered.

That's the whole of it, really. Everything I do is about getting back to what was always there.

It's trusting an inner intelligence. The real self that had been covered for all those years, waiting for the noise to fall away. Not a concept. Not an idea you arrive at. A felt sense. An inner knowing that was always there, underneath everything.

My philosophy

Breathwork isn't the goal. It's the gateway.

When you breathe with intention, in a held space, the mind starts to quiet. Not because you forced it. Because you gave the body something else to do, and for once the mind didn't have to run the show.

When the mind quiets and softens, something else comes online. Call it intuition. Your heart. Your inner knowing. I don't much mind what you call it. What matters is that you get to feel it. Probably for the first time in a while.

From there, things start to become clear. Where you've gone off track. What's been running on autopilot. What getting back on track actually looks and feels like. Not as a concept. As a felt sense in your body.

That's what I'm paying attention to. Not technique. Not protocol. The moment when you stop running on noise and start accessing what's actually true for you.

Background

Training & lineage.

I'm a Level 2 Accredited Breathwork Facilitator through Flow Institute Australia (FIA), and an accredited practitioner with the International Practitioners of Holistic Medicine (IPHM). I'm an initiated vision quest guide in the Stalking Wolf lineage — a tradition built around extended time in nature, ceremony, and threshold work. That lineage shapes how I hold space in every room I work in, not just on quest.

The people who come to my sessions are police officers, parents, builders, executives, osteopaths, and personal trainers. What they share isn't a profession or a particular problem. It's that something in them has become ready.

I understand that feeling. I've lived it.
